About Mark

I have an inner peace. I achieve this inner peace by creating works of art with my camera's, spending time with my family and helping others. My work is singular in form. It has minimal distractions. It stands alone in its composition. My work suggests an inner piece I’ve obtained even in a world of pain and strife.

My images demonstrate a graphical theme of patterns, abstracts and lighting. Color plays an important part in my images. My selection of composition is the predominant reason for making each image.

When I make images, it allows me to explore my world around me. I enjoy the resulting image and the response I receive from my community. That response is always different from individual to individual. It can be global, cultural, personal or a combination of all three. I hope that my work can cause a response in people’s passion to relate to situations or objects. As in the deterioration of society and countries, I’m inspired to document the changing condition with the hopes of inspiring people to preserve them or at least be more aware of them.

I see composition all around me. I compose photographic images everywhere I go. I see beautiful compositions in clouds, in building structures, and in landscapes of intersections, light and color. The work I create changes me. While my work is a reflection of myself, doing the work also changes me as a person.

I always have a camera with me. Composing the image in my viewfinder is exciting, but so is changing it, seeing the print, and especially sharing the final image with others. I make altered images that don’t look altered. Unaltered images that look altered. The effect forces the viewer into wondering about his or her own individual world and asking more about our living realty.

I’ve been photographing for over 35 years. I use conventional color negative film, transparency film and digital cameras. I make photographs that document the world around me, which I alter very slightly or rather significantly. I sketch with images. I scan and manipulate digitally to achieve a desired artistic result. The computer allows me to paint my images with skill I lack as a painter. For me, the computer has enabled my photos to take on many lives, to let me take a favorite and recreate it, bringing it to a new level I could only imagine before. Now my work is truly living and never static.
